Chris-Craft is an American motorboat marque known for runabouts, sports boats and cruisers. Its long model history ranges from collectible wooden launches to modern composite boats with contemporary outboard or sterndrive propulsion.
History and ownership. The company traces its roots to the Smith family’s boatbuilding activity in the nineteenth century and became internationally known during the growth of recreational powerboating. The marque has continued through several ownership periods.
Production and equipment. Modern boats use series composite construction, detailed upholstery and assembled propulsion packages. Classic wooden and early fibreglass models require period-specific assessment because construction and equipment vary considerably.
