Marex is a Norwegian family-boat builder known for practical motor cruisers with generous social areas, sheltered cockpits and layouts aimed at comfortable coastal and inland cruising. Its model history includes open day boats, aft-cabin cruisers and the long-running Scandinavia and Sun Cruiser concepts, with an emphasis on making space work well for families.
History and ownership. Marex was founded in Norway in 1973 by Eyvin Aalrud. The company grew from its first 24 Sun Cab and later worked closely with Joda before establishing its own identity and model range. Eyvin’s sons Espen and Thomas became involved in the business and helped develop the international dealer network. Marex remains family owned, while production and the company’s main manufacturing operation have expanded beyond Norway.
Production and equipment. The modern production facility in Kaunas, Lithuania, provides a large specialist boatbuilding operation, while the original Norwegian sites are used for service, storage and aftermarket work. Marex coordinates design, engineering, moulded composite construction, interior finishing and final assembly. Engines, drives, navigation electronics, heating and other technical equipment are selected from specialist marine suppliers and vary by model and build year.
