Albin is a Swedish boat name associated with approachable sailing yachts and practical family cruisers. Models such as the Albin Ballad became popular because they offered reliable sailing manners, useful accommodation and a format that owners could manage without a large crew. The wider Albin name has also appeared on motorboats, so the exact model and production period matter when describing an individual boat.
History and ownership. Albin Marine grew out of Swedish boatbuilding during the expansion of Scandinavian recreational boating in the 1960s and 1970s. The company worked with several well-known Scandinavian designers and sold boats throughout northern Europe. Production histories differ between model families and periods, and many older Albins have since been maintained, refitted or modified by private owners.
Production and equipment. The boats were produced as series-built composite yachts with moulded hulls, decks and interiors, complemented by timber joinery and equipment from specialist marine suppliers. Engines, spars, sails, winches and electronics vary considerably between examples. A used Albin should therefore be assessed from its own survey, service records and actual equipment rather than from the original brochure alone.
